What is bass sax?

The bass saxophone is the second largest member of the saxophone family, following the contrabass saxophone. It is pitched in the key of Bb and has a rich, deep tone that can sometimes be mistaken for a baritone saxophone.

The bass saxophone was first produced in the late 19th century by the Adolphe Sax company, but it did not gain much popularity at the time. It was primarily used in military bands and orchestras, as well as in early jazz music.

Today, the bass saxophone is a rare instrument that is not commonly found in most musical ensembles. It is often used in modern jazz and experimental music, as well as in some symphonic pieces.

Playing the bass saxophone requires a significant amount of breath control and strength due to its large size and low pitch. It is typically played with a harness or stand to support its weight, as it can be quite heavy to hold for extended periods of time.
